We, too, were hanging around somewhere there. Hussain then played diverse rhythm structures while reciting the tabla bols and playing them alongside.ĭuring the encore, Hussain hunkered down, as if getting a better look at his instrument and as the performance reached a crescendo, he brought the stage alive, dazzling the ones present with his masterstrokes - as if Hussain was diagonally parked in a parallel universe. He then played short compositions - with his fingers communicating the sound of a deer galloping away into the woods and Lord Krishna being scolded by Radha for arriving late. Head banging to teen taal, he delved into lightning-speed taans and improvised. The blur of his fingers during what he called "serious drum bashing" had him present an opening tukra followed by a groovy theka. Choudhary sang a thumri, jhula and ghazal, but her voice was jagged and frequently out of tune.īut it was towards the home stretch that Hussain told us why he is still the master of percussion. Here, Hussain tried his best to lift the performance and showcased the 14-beat deepchandi taal, keherva and dadra. Dadra Taal, from the album Ecstasy, was released in the year 2006. The only low point was Sraboni Choudhary's vocals in the second section. Dadra Taal is a Hindustani language song and is sung by Ustad Zakir Hussain.
